Anant Agarwal is a computer architecture researcher. He is a professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also serves as the president of edX, a joint partnership between MIT and Harvard University that offers free online learning. Agarwal holds a Ph.D. from Stanford and a bachelor's from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He led the development of Raw - an early tiled multicore processor, Sparcle - an early multithreaded microprocessor, and Alewife - a scalable multiprocessor. He also led the VirtualWires project at MIT and was the founder of Virtual Machine Works, which took the VirtualWires technology to market. He is an author of the textbook "Foundations of Analog and Digital Electronic Circuits." AWARDS
