Union HRD Minister Sri Kapil Sibal today inaugurated First World Summit on Accreditation organized by National Board of Accreditation India, an autonomous body of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) in New Delhi.
A number of Top Educators, Industry Experts and Policy Makers will be addressing the four-day Summit which is being held at New Delhi.
The Union Minister said that the summit will immensely help develop a framework to integrate the Institutes of Higher Education in India with the global accreditation.
Advocating the need for a “Cross-boarder Accreditation”, which according to the Minister, was necessary for acceptance of Indian degrees in foreign Universities and across the world, the Minister said that “Global Accreditation is required to achieve excellence and also necessary as there is increasing need of a global workforce for which a global system of accreditation is necessary for employers to evaluate the quality of the workforce.”
Dr. Dinesh Kumar Paliwal, Member Secretary, NBA, said “The Summit is a culmination of various initiatives undertaken by the NBA to create an environment for introducing global quality standards on Indian campuses imparting technical and professional education to help maintain the students’ mobility in the academic and professional paths.”
During the next three days, the summit will have a number of distinguished speakers including Dr. Eileen Peacock, Vice President & Chief Officer Asia of AACSB; Dr. Pritam Singh, Management guru and Director General, IMI Delhi; Prof. Rajan Saxena, Vice Chancellor, NMIMS Mumbai; Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow; Dr. B S Sahay, Director, IIM Raipur; Dr. Sushma Berlia, Apeejay Stya Education Research Foundation; Dr. Raj Agarwal, Director, Center for Management Education, AIMA among others.
The summit will have about 15 sessions on different aspects of Accreditation and some of the distingushed speakers will also make paper presentations on different theme related to accreditation.
Top practitioners who will share their views on “Corporate Perspective on Accreditation” include Mr. Satish Pradhan, Chief, Group HR, Tata Sons; Shri Anil Sachdev, Founder & CEO, SOIL, Gurgaon; Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO, Global Talent Track, Ms. Amrita Gangotra, Director (IT), Bharti Airtel Ltd; Mr. Ajay Batra, Head, Azim Premji Institue for Assessment and Accreditation.

The main objective of the Summit is to bring India amongst the world leaders of accreditation which can make India’s journey in the world smoother in terms of educational and professional areas.
Speaking exclusively to MBA Universe.com on the summit, Dr. Dinesh K Paliwal, Member Secretary, NBA talked about the objective of the Summit. “In this era of globalization the requirement of international exposure to the student during their study period is gaining importance day by day. Lot of Indian students and professionals are moving to overseas destinations to pursue higher study or career. The World Summit on Accreditation would provide an opportunity to educational institutes to interact with other institutions to explore the possibility of having such study programmes in each other’s campuses and have faculty exchange programmes as well,” he said, adding, ”We want NBA to be a global seal for the quality of education.”
Dr. Paliwal said that there would be four special sessions in the World Summit of Accreditation, which include Session on ‘Washington Accord on UG Engineering Education‘ for institutions accrediting professional engineering degree programs in each of the signatory countries in which India is a provision member represented by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), convener of the Summit.
The second Session will be on ‘International Accreditation of Management Programmes’ Standards & Processes which will have participation from AACSB International who are also associates to the Summit, EQUIS-EFMD of Brussels, Association of MBAs of London, Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programmes (ACBSP), Kansas City, USA, International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE) and British Accreditation Council (BAC), London.
The third Session will talk about ‘Policy Issues in Higher Education for Achieving India’s Competitiveness’ involving the State and Centre. The session would focus on promoting accreditation and quality standards by the State Higher Educational Councils.
The fourth Session will be on ‘Corporate perspectives on Accreditation’ and will focus on the involvement of Corporate in building global quality in higher education to produce professional talent for industry.
