ALIET to go in for twinning programme with US varsity

Date: 12th June 2012

Andhra Loyola Institute of Engineering and Technology (ALIET) will start M.Tech courses in Computer Science Engineering and in Digital Electronics and Communication systems and it will also enter into twinning programmes with Jesuit Institution in the United States of America.

Addressing a press conference to share the successful placement of 114 students from the first batch of students passing out from the institute, here on Wednesday, ALIET director J. Thainese said that there were 28 Jesuit universities in the United States and consultations were on with several of them for a twinning arrangement.

The JNTU-K had already given permission to the ALIET to approach foreign universities for a tie-up. The M.Tech courses would have an intake of 18 each, he said.

Fr. Thainese and assistant director of the college, Fr. Melchior, said that the college conducted a “one-of-its-kind” placement week from April 29 to May 5. Fifteen companies like IBM, Google, Keypoint Technologies, HCL, Sitel, Efftronics, Voicefone and Ruva hired students. Out of the 154 students who registered for placement the companies hired 114, with a success rate of 74 per cent against the norm of 8 per cent, they said.

“This is no mean achievement for a college conducting campus placements for its engineering students for the first time. The total number of offers made was 196 and the students had choice. We are expecting more colleges to come this year,” he said.

A five-member placement committee with the director, assistant director and principal O. Mahesh has been constituted to give due importance to the effort. “We are expecting the companies who hired our students to come back next year because will know the true worth of the institution,” Fr Thainese said.
