Policy makers, academics to debate future of B-schools at Indian Management Conclave.

The third annual Indian Management Conclave to be held in the national capital next week will bring together nearly 300 policy makers, senior management academics and recruiters to debate and offer solutions to B-schools on how to survive and thrive in face of policy uncertainty and imminent market-driven shake out.
 
Union Education Minister of State for Higher Education E Ahmad will open the conclave and deliver inaugural address.

Maruti Suzuki India and IIM Ranchi Chairman, who scripted the recent report on new governance structure of IIMs, RC Bhargava, eminent management professor and Cornell Dean Soumitra Dutta, and policy maker and AICTE Chief Dr SS Mantha will be among those delivering key sessions.

The speakers at the MBAUniverse.com organized annual conclave will feature 35 Chancellors, Vice Chancellors, Directors and Deans from IIMs, PGDM B-schools and Universities.

Indian management education is experiencing churn after years of growth with hundreds of B-schools closing down and majority of them of ending up with unfilled seats in last few years.

This is alarming especially when industry demand for trained management graduates has not dipped significantly. The conclave will feature sessions by policy makers to clear the air on policy framework, Indian B-schools leaders will share their experiences on how to navigate successfully in the future.

“Rapid changes in policy framework, student aspirations and employer needs calls for re-alignment by top B-schools, private and public Universities. The conclave theme ‘Survival of the Fittest: Lessons from the best’ will focus on offering rare insights from stakeholders that the academics can use to offer quality management education,” says Amit Agnihotri, Chairman, MBAUniverse.com, the organisers of this annual conclave.

The conclave will find lessons from the best in class management schools and explore solutions on how to be more competitive to survive and thrive in the current era of chaos. The conclave will be held at India International Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi on Thursday and Friday August 9 and 10, 2012

Dr Soumitra Dutta, who recently took over as Dean at America’s ivy league University Cornell’s Graduate School of Management, and will deliver the keynote address said, “Globally, MBA Education is at crossroads. The changes in business, society, technology...are calling for new models. In this evolution, India can play an important role by being both the ‘creator’ and the ‘lab’ for next-generation management ideas. Indian Management Conclave, as knowledge creation and dissemination platform, can be a catalyst of this process.”

Eminent international thought-leaders Dr Elieen Peacock, Asia Head, AACSB, Singapore; Ms Sharon Bamford, Chief Executive of Associations of MBAs (AMBA), UK and Dr Murali Chandrashekharan, Associate Dean, Sauder School of Business, UBC, Canada will share their experiences that will serve as global benchmarks for Indian B Schools.

They will be joined in by Dr M Masood, President of Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) and Dr H Chaturvedi, Alternate President of Educational Promotion Society for India (EPSI).

Well-known educationist and director-general of International Management Institute Dr Pritam Singh will lead a half day session of a dozen academic Directors of from management schools on the agenda for change and the road ahead.

Directors of IIMs at Ranchi and Trichy; IMT Ghaziabad, ISB Mohali; Narsee Monjee, SP Jain and TA Pai Management Institute; OP Jindal Global University and NIIT University will also be participating.

Employability challenge: Leading corporate house like ICICI Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Hero Motocorp and Deloitte that recruit management graduates will share ideas on how to restore primacy to the MBA as a qualification.
