Brand USA, the tourism marketing entity for promoting the US to the world, is looking at generating nearly 1.3 million arrivals from India in 2016.
The public-private entity will be undertaking various promotional campaigns in India focusing on the business and leisure travel segments to increase Indian arrivals in the US, which stood at 6.63 lakh in 2011.
"We are looking at generating 1.3 million arrivals from India in 2016," Brand USA Business Development Vice-President Jay Gray said today.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the travel trade mission to India organised by Brand USA, which had 50 delegates representing 35 US destinations and companies.
"India is a premium market for us and apart from expanding the number of business travelers, we are going to focus on the leisure travel segment as there is a huge opportunity there," he said.
This will be done through various promotional campaigns on television, radio, social networking sights and by educating tour operators and travel agents, he added.
According to the US Department of Commerce, 6,63,000 Indians visited the country in 2011, making it the 12th in the world in terms of arrivals to that country. However, they ranked 10th in terms of spending and spent USD 4.4 billion.
Commenting on the increase in number of travelers from India, Brand USA Chief Business Development Officer Paul Cerula said: "India is one of the key markets for us with the number of Indians traveling to the US growing from 309,000 in 2004 to 660,000 in 2011 - an impressive 115 per cent growth in travel during the period".
Brand USA was established by the Travel Promotion Act of that country in 2010 to spearhead promotion of the US as a premier travel destination in the world. It began operations in May 2011.
