Thoudam Prabha Devi from Manipur has been appointed as the vice-chancellor of Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women's (JVW) University, Jaipur. Forty-year old Prabha Devi is the youngest woman, who held the chair.
Prabha passed her matriculation from Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School and got her pre- university degree from Modern College in Imphal. Later, she completed her B.Com from Osmania University, Hyderabad, and M.Com from Manipur University. She also received her PhD degree in the subject from here.
She has taught at the Baptist College in Nagaland and the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi. She joined JVW as a management professor in 2008. Talking to media, she said, "In a very short time, I was appointed as the dean and then elevated to the post of VC in November last year after appearing in a selection test. There were three contenders for the post." It is also surprising that the six top administrative officers of the varsity—chancellor, CEO, VC, academic controller, registrar and provost, are all women.
