In a sign of the state's shifting demographics, Latha Mangipudi, a Nashua resident hailing from Mysore, India, was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives last week.
Mangipudi, who received both her undergraduate and masters degrees from the All-India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysore (a city roughly the size of Boston near Bangalore), came to the U.S. back in 1986 and settled into the Nashua area three years later.
Following her win, she told the Nashua Telegraph she's proud to be a first-generation Indian American.
"This is my home. First I'm an American — I'm proud being a first-generation American-Indian," she said. "This country has given me an opportunity to grow and raise a family."
