Narendra Modi will build new IIT in Goa aided by US institutions
Sep 23, 2014 |
PM Narendra Modi is aiming a major goal in developing the education sector in India. The NDA government led by him has drafted a blueprint to establish five new Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The plan was announced during this year's budget with the backing of foreign countries. Many historians did not take a back step in mentioning the fact that Congress too had taken a similar initiative in the 1950s and '60s under the able guidance of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The proposed IIT in Goa will be established in alliance with well-known institutions in the United States. As per sources, the HRD Minister, Smriti Irani will travel with Prime Minister Modi to America. She is all set to sign a joint statement for the very purpose.
In all probability, the conglomerate of US institutions that has been approached to assist in setting up the proposed IIT in Goa will be finalized soon. The pact will be confirmed after India and US sign a joint declaration. The specific features related to the number of institutes that will help IIT Goa and in what competence will be worked out by the joint work group, which will be set up after signing the dotted line. There are 13 IITs at present in the country. The Modi government announced another five new IITs in its maiden budget for 2014-15 to be built with a sanctioned budget of 500 crores.
